    President attends ceremony to hand over Sannasa to Dammissara Thero

    The Deputy Chief Sanganayaka of Raigam Salpita Koraladwaye Ven. Bopitiye Dammissara Thero has been appointed as the Chief Sanganayaka of the Shyamopali Vanshika Mahanikaye Malwathu Chapter, Kaluthara district. The Sri Sannaspatra (the Act of Appointment) presentation ceremony was held at the Sri Pushparama Mangala Uposathagaraya, Malwathu Viharaya, Kandy with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena.

    Ven. Bopitiye Dammissara Thero was ordained in Matugama in 1961. The Thero was a devout monk known for his service for the promotion of Buddhism not only in Wadduwa but also at international level during past 50 years. Construction of the Samudrarama Viharaya in Wadduwa, the establishment and continuation of the Siri Mahamihindu Pirivena and ordaining fifty Buddhist theros are some of the highlights of his service for the renaissance of Buddhism in Wadduwa area.

    Ven. Dhammissara Thero held many positions including the Consultant of Dharmavijaya group, Retired Principal of Dharmapala Maha Vidyalaya, Founding Advisor of Siwali Sunday School and President of Eksath Jathika Bhikku Front and Religious Advisor to the Ministry of Education. President Sirisena visited Malwathu Maha Viharaya this evening and paid a visit to Most Venerable Tibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera. Then the procession led by Mahanayaka Thera arrived at the Mangala Uposathagaraya. The Chief Incumbent of the Ven. Malwatte Mahanayake Thero presented the Sri Sannaspathra to the Chief Incumbent of the Sangha.
    The Chief Incumbent of Somawathi Rajamaha Viharaya Dr. Ven. Pahamune Sri Sumangala Thero, Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya, the Chief Incumbent Ven. Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangarakitha Thero, Ven. Gonaduwe Gunananda Thero, and maha sanga, Minister Lakshman Kiriella, Governor Maithri Gunarathne, and several others were also presented on this occasion.
