Advisory for Heavy Rain and Winds Featured

    October 28, 2019

The Department of Meteorology today issued Advisory for Heavy Rain and Winds says that the aspheric disturbance in the Southwest Bay of Bengal to the Southeast of Sri Lanka is likely to move westward while intensifying into the Arabian Sea. Under the influence of the system, showery condition is likely to enhance over most parts of the island (particularly in the Eastern, UVA, southern, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces) until 29th. Windy condition over the Eastern slopes of the Central hills (NuwaraEliya, Matale and Badulla districts) and over the Southern province is expected to increase up to (50-60) kmph at times. Showers or thundershowers will occur over most provinces of the island. Very heavy falls above 150 mm can be expected at some places in Eastern, Uva, Central, Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Polonnaruwa district. Heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected at some places elsewhere. Therefore, General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
