    Thirty investments in the tourism sector this year

    The government intends to initiate thirty tourism sector-related investments this year, said Minister of Industrial Exports and Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Prasanna Ranatunga.

    This programme will fulfill an expected foreign direct investment of $ 122 million.

     After the current government came into power, several applications were received for projects related to tourism investments amounting to Rs. 66,250 million.

    This is roughly around $370 million. It is expected to construct 550 rooms and 400 Vilas under this project. Ranatunga added that all steps have been taken to grant approval for this project.

     In addition, he said that talks are underway for an additional two investments for the tourism sector. The Investment Board anticipates an investment of Rs. 4,140 through these projects.

     The Tourism Ministry is the primary institution which works to attract local and foreign investments. Therefore, Minister Ranatunga said that the government is placing great importance and commitment towards tourism sector investments.
