The Nagalagam Street, Sekkuwatta in Grandpass was declared an isolated area as several persons who had associated with the person from Suduwella who tested positive had visited this area, says the Commander of Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.

Addressing the media briefing of the National Operation Centre for the prevention of VCovid-19 yestarday (16) he said 118 persons who are suspected to have come in contact with this person had been sent to the Punani Quarantine Centre early this morning. “However, there could be second and third tier persons who could be vulnerable, and as such we isolated this area as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, another 20 persons who had fulfilled the quarantine process returned to their homes today. Accordingly, there are a further 1,631 persons still in quarantine centres and 3721 have undergone the quarantine process so far and left the quarantine centres.”

He noted that during the PCR tests conducted over the past two days the reports of 80 have been received, but there were no positive cases reported at the Punani quarantine centre. He said that it is most likely that the rest would also be tested and those who are cleared would be sent home. Another group of doctors and medical staff are also undergoing quarantine at the Waikkal Dolphin Hotel, which was given for quarantine purposes.
