10 out of 12 positive cases from the Navy - Army Commander

    May 11, 2020

Army Commander and Head of the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of Covid-19 (NOCPCO) Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva during the daily briefing yesterday (10) said that out of the 12 persons who tested positive for the Coronavirus on Saturday, 10 were navy personnel and the other two were those who had contact with the infected persons, but currently in quarantine. Accordingly, by Saturday night there were 578 persons receiving treatment at various hospitals.

Moreover, 259 persons infected with the Coronavirus have made a full recovery and released from hospital, said.

Meanwhile, he said that 274 persons had returned to the country from Melbourne last morning (10) and another group were to arrive in the country last evening from Malaysia. They were all directed to the tri forces run quarantine centres for quarantine.

He noted that all state and private sector organisations will commence operations under certain restrictions by today (11). Many companies have been issued directives to commence their operations with a limited 1/3rd staff cadre. Hence, he said that it is expected that all private sector companies too would commence operations to some extent adhering to all health guidelines, social distancing and earlier notified transport guidelines. The Commander noted that the districts where the curfew has been lifted will operate in the same manner, while in areas where the curfew is still in force, people have been advised to leave home only for essential requirements on the given dates based on the last digit of their Identity cards. The Army Commander said that only those attending work would be allowed to use public transport and those not required to attend work should continue working from home and avoid unnecessary travel. He noted that everyone had made huge sacrifices over the past two months and everyone’s main aim should be to avoid getting infected when the movement restrictions are relaxed this week. He also urged the public to render their fullest cooperation to the tri forces, Police and CSD to carry out their duties by complying with the regulations.
