    June 07, 2020

To coincide with the World Environment Day that falls on 05th June, a number of programmes were conducted by SL Navy in the Northern Naval Command on 05th June 2020.

In line with this year’s Environment Day theme “Bio diversity-Spaces for nature”, tree planting campaigns were conducted in all naval bases and establishments in Northern Naval Command. These campaigns were conducted under the guidance of Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera and Commanding Officers of respective bases together with other officers and senior/junior sailors joined in the tree planting and other activities.

Inspired by the “Green and Blue Drive” (Neela Haritha Sangramaya) mooted by the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, these tree planting campaigns were carried out paralleled to the World Environment Day, as another extension of it. Further, beach and base premises cleaning activities were also held. Awareness programmes were conducted in view of inculcating self responsibility and provoking the sense of naval personnel to protect environment for the sustainable development.
