    The 20th amendment bill to the Constitution was passed by a two-thirds majority

    The Third Reading of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution has been passed with an amendment with a two-thirds majority.

     

    The 20th Amendment to the Constitution was considered in the Committee Stage and passed with amendments, Hon. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced. 

    The 20th Amendment to the Constitution was passed by a majority in Parliament. Hon. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced that the second reading of the 20th Amendment Bill to the Constitution was passed in Parliament.

    In voting on its Second Reading, the 20th Amendment bill to the Constitution received 156 votes in favor and 65 against.


    The Bill was then referred to the Committee Stage and amendments were suggested there. The Speaker said that the Bill was passed after considering all the amendments.

    In voting on its Third  Reading, the 20th Amendment bill to the Constitution received 156 votes in favor and 65 against.
