Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardana stated that soybean oil will be introduced as an alternative for expensive coconut oil and in the future, the distribution of soybean oil at low prices will be commenced through the Lanka Sathosa and the Co-operative Network.
The Minister said this in responding to a question raised by Mohamad Muzammil M.P regarding the importation of coconut oil harmful for the human body.
Minister Gunawardana further said that even though no complaints have been received regarding coconut oil with any adverse effect in the market, the Minister had instructed the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority to conduct an inquiry into such coconut oil which is harmful to the human body.
