    Unscrupulous sugar vendors warned of penalties irrespective of status – State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura

    If vendors try to sell sugar at prices above the Government controlled maximum price on imported sugar, such unscrupulous traders will be punished irrespective of their status,
    State Minister for Sugarcane, Maize, Cashew, Pepper, Cinnamon, Cloves, Betel and Small Crop Cultivation Development Janaka Wakkumbura says.

    The Minster was announcing the Government’s decision with regard to imported sugar before the media.

    He further said that he would take action to provide sufficient stock of sugar for the cooperative societies and take every measure to enable ordinary people to buy sugar at a
    Government-controlled price.

    State Minister Wakkumbura said that locally produced sugar and imported sugar will be sold to the consumers at Rs.125, and at a wholesale price of Rs.116 per kilogram
    respectively.
