Wijeyaratne making a special statement at yesterday's Kandy Municipal Council monthly meeting, said he is resigning from the membership of the Council and will quit politics altogether to contest for the post of Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa at the forthcoming election.
The Kandy Municipal Council's Opposition UNP Leader Neranjan Wijeyaratne tendered his letter of resignation from the Council Membership to Mayor Mahen Ratwatte, yesterday.
