Investigation Unit to probe highway corruptions Featured

The Sri Lankan government plans to establish an investigation unit in the field of highways to probe whether there was any corruption that would cause losses to the government.

The Minister of Highways and Investment Promotions, Kabir Hashim has put forward a proposal to establish the corruption investigation unit to determine whether there were any defects in administrative, technical, financial and other procedures that would cause a major loss to the government.

 

The government has invested a large amount of money in the field of highways within the period from January 2011 to January 2015 during the previous regime. The committee which is to be established under the Ministry of Highways and Investment Promotions will identify responsible authorities and will provide recommendations to amend the relevant procedure to prevent such losses in the future. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved Minister Kabir Hashim's proposal to establish the unit.
