Marriage Registration charges reduced from Rs. 5,000/- to Rs. 1,000/-

The Government has taken steps to revise charges of marriages registration from Rs. 5,000/- to Rs. 1,000/- with effect from 16th March, 2015, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Rajitha Senarathna said while addressing the weekly cabinet briefing held at the Government Information Department today (18).

Accordingly, the revision of charges for registration of marriages from Rs. 5,000/- to Rs. 1,000/- proposed in the Budget is being implemented at present with effect from 16th March, 2015.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal made by the Minister of Home Affairs Michael Joseph Perera to revise the Registration of Marriages Act for this purpose, he added.
