Climate Change should e addressed collective and dimensionally - Gamini Thilakasiri

    September 08, 2015

Climate change is a universal challenge that all nations in the world  should address collectively and multi dimensionally. The dangers of  this salient yet contested concept implicate citizens and legislative officials across the globe, posing immediate and future threats to mankind, natural resources, biodiversity, and environmental stability, Minister of  Agriculture, Agrarian Development, Minor Irrigation, Industries, Environment, Arts and Cultural Affairs (Western Province) Gamini Thilakasiri said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of  the Western Province Climate Change Summit held today (08) at Hotel Hilton.

He pointed out that, this cannot be avoided by any of the nations, since it is becoming increasingly certain that climate change will have severe adverse effects on the environment in years to come. "Climate Change theory support laws, regulations, emission standards, and international protocols that seek to control the phenomenon and mitigate its effects. Addressing this issue poses a serious challenge for policy makers. Responsible, effective climate change policy requires consideration of a number of complex factors, including weighing the costs of implementing climate change policies against the benefits of more nvironmentally sustainable practices", he further pointed out.
