    Sri Lanka is among the front line countries that had effectively controlled the spread of HIV/ AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases like Syphilis and Gonorrhea, by spread of the three diseases keeping in about .02% a year said in a seminar last Friday. Dr. Lilani Rajapaksa, National Coordinator, of the ‘Project to Prevent Transmission of HIV and Syphilis from Mother to Child’ told the seminar conducted at the Health Promotion Bureau yesterday that the number of HIV/AIDS infected persons stood at 3,195 at the end of 2018 and Syphilis and Gonorrhea patients countrywide stood at 100.

    President Sirisena who is currently in Tajikistan to attend the 5th Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures visited the National Museum of Tajikistan in Dushanbe. The museum composed of four exhibition departments- Natural History, Department of Ancient and Medieval History, Department of Modern and Contemporary History, and Department of Fine and Applied Arts. President Sirisena inspected the structure of the museum and his special attention was drawn to a recline statue of Buddha which is many years old.


    President Maithripala Sirisena called on Asian countries not to allow outside powers to suppress the power of Asia. The Asian region, as the forerunner of the next century, should be strong and powerful in every aspect especially in peace and economic strength is the Century of Asia, he said.

    A Maldivian state level delegation of more than 100 officials arrived in the country for a three-day official visit yesterday (Jun 14).The delegation comprised Maldivian Vice President Faisal Naseem, Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, cabinet ministers and parliamentarians from the Maldivian Demoratic Party (MDP) and its Governing Council. A total of 105 officials constituted the delegation.
