Assistant Commissioner of Elections (ACE) for Jaffna T. Agilan said 147 physically handicapped voters had applied for transport facilities in the Jaffna electoral district and accordingly, buses or other transport modes will be provided for tomorrow’s polls.
The High Commission of India and the Indian expatriate community in Sri Lanka celebrated the 69th Independence Day of India on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at India House in Colombo. High Commissioner Mr. Y.K. Sinha unfurled the National Flag and inspected a Guard of Honour presented by the BSF contingent. He read out excerpts from the Address to the Nation on the eve of the Independence Day by the Hon´ble President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee.
The National Mourning Day and 40th Death Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed on Saturday(15 August 2015) by Bangladesh High Commission in Colombo in a befitting manner and with due solemnity. Members of expatriate Bangladesh community, officials and staff of the High Commission participated in a programme arranged at the Chancery premises of the High Commission. The programme included hoisting of national flag at half-mast, observance of one minute silence, recitation from the Holy Books, placing of floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu, reading out messages of President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, open discussion, prayers/munajat and screening of a documentary film on Bangabandhu. The programme was rounded off with a lunch.
A programme was held at the Ministry to educate the Ministry staff of the importance and value of consuming herbal drinks. The programme was conducted by the Hela Suwaya organization to introduce a traditionally made herbal porridge (Kenda) on Thursday (13).
