The Government today urged Tamil youths to join the Police force in the North and East. Minister of Law and Order Ranjith Madduma Bandara told Parliament that the Police would like to have more Tamils in the Police force. He urged Tamils politicians to encourage Tamils to join the Police.
The new Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Sri Lanka Mr Loukas Petridis who assumed his office recently paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake on Tuesday (21) and received an update on ongoing reconciliation and community -oriented projects being carried out by members of the Security Forces in the North and East.
Six (06) Indian fishermen who were drowning in the Sri Lankan territorial waters were rescued by officers and sailors of Sri Lanka Navy’s Fast Gun Boat on patrol, attached to the Northern Naval Command, yesterday (22nd August).

Sri Lanka’s first Special High Court was officially declared open today (21) at the Hulftsdorp Court Complex in Colombo 12 by Minister of Justice and Prison Reforms Thalatha Athukorale.The building was ceremonially declared open this morning and will house one of the three Special High Courts, that are being set up to expedite cases of large scale corruption and financial crimes.

The region, particularly its island nation States and littoral countries are vulnerable to a variety of natural disasters, due to highly populated coastal areas. As such, humanitarian operations in the form of disaster response, assistance and rebuilding has become a core peacetime duty for many armed forces, regionally and internationally.
The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) will release its interim report on August 30 to coincide with the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.The report will present recommendations to the Government on several issues of the missing.
