    President attends 70th United Nations General Assembly Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena attended the 70th the United Nations General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York on Monday (September 28).

    Ministers Mangala Samaraweera ,Mahinda Samarasinghe,Wijedasa Rajapakse and Dr.Rohan Perera were also present at this occasion.

     

    The United Nations General Assembly, comprised of all 193 Members of the United Nations, provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter.

     

    Each year, the Secretary-General draws one Member State amongst all to occupy the first seat in the General Assembly Hall.

     

    This year and throughout the 70th session, the delegation of TUVALU will sit at the first desk at the right of the President, and the other countries will follow in the English alphabetical order.

     

    Within the space of two hours on Monday (28)  morning, Presidents Barack Obama, Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, Hassan Rouhani and François Hollande addressed the  general debate of the General Assembly’s seventieth session.
