    International White Cane Day first flag pinned on Presdient Featured

    The first flag of the “flag’s sales week”, organized to mark International White Cane Day was pinned on President Maithripala Sirisena today (Oct.08) at the President’s Official Residence.

    President of the Organization of Visually Handicapped Graduates, Mr. Sugath Vasantha Silva pinned the first flag on President Sirisena.

     

    Mr. Silva briefed the President about certain difficulties faced by the visually handicapped people. He also informed the President about certain injustices caused to them.

     

    At this event Secretary of the Visually Handicapped Persons Organization, Mr Nuwan Indika presented a letter to the President, listing out the problems unique to the handicapped.

     

    President Sirisena, marking the White Cane Day, presented a white cane to the Secretary of the Organization, Nuwan Indika. He also made a contribution to the Organization. This donation was received by the Treasurer of the Organization – Mr P.D. Nihal.

     

    Sri Lanka Council of the Visually Handicapped Graduates announced that it has organized a Flag Week from October 15 to 22 to collect funds to support the education and well-being of the handicapped.
