A committee has been appointed under the guidance of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to make recommendations to prepare a new constitution for Sri Lanka, Parliamentarian and President's Counsel Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne said.

Officials of the Legal Draftsman Department, intellectuals from legal sector, parliamentary officials and representatives are included in the committee, he further said.

Participating in a scholarly discourse at the Centre for Policy Alternatives in Colombo yesterday (13), Dr. Wickramaratne said they will look into new systems of governance in preparing the new constitution.

The CPA said it has initiated a program to obtain the highest possible participation of citizens in the formulation of the new constitution.
