    Country’s middle class is growing annually

    Senior Minister of International Monetary Cooperation and Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said in parliament today that Sri Lanka’s middle class was growing every year.


    Currently there are 2.7 million motorcycles and 850,000 three-wheelers in the country. This growth of is an indication that the country’s middle class was growing annually, he said.


    The Minister responding to a question raised by UNP Matara District MP Buddhika Pathirana said the taxes on motorcycles and three-wheelers could not be reduced for the moment. The taxes imposed on those vehicles were very reasonable. The demand for those vehicles were on the rise and the direct and indirect jobs the use and industry of vehicles too have been created, the minister said.
