    ‘Mahaweli Prathiba’ Arts Festival held under President's patronage

    ‘Mahaweli Prathiba’ Arts Festival was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, yesterday (22). 

     

    The aim of the festival is to collect funds for the Mahaweli Foundation Scholarship Fund for the educational needs of the children living in the Mahaweli zones and to introduce their artistic talents to the world. 

    The President symbolically presented four scholarships to A/L Students and also presented awards and certificates to leaders of dancing troupes representing all the zones in the Mahaweli. At this event all the officials and staff members of 10 institutions under the Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry have donated their one-day’s salary to the Mahaweli foundation scholarship fund. Furthermore, Bank of Ceylon, Regional Development Bank, Faraj Construction Company, which handles the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project also presented donations for the fund.

    Expressing his views regarding the Mahaweli Prathiba’ Arts Festival the President said that the Arts Festival is a timely concept for the children living in the Mahaweli zones to show their talents and to strengthen the fund. President Sirisena thanked for all who contributed to the fund. 

    Singing and dancing items made the show more colourful. Deputy Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment- Anuradha Jayaratne, Udaya R. Seneviratne- Secretary of the Ministry, Anura Dissanayake- Director Genaral of Mahaweli Development Authority and others participated on this occasion.
