    Let us commit ourselves to build a nation where the people can live happily – President Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena says in this New Year every public servant should be committed to build a country where common people can live happily.

    “It is the responsibility of the public servants to listen to the problems of the people and provide solutions”, he said.

     

    The President made these remarks at the occasion when the staff of Polonnaruwa District Secretariat commenced work in New Year yesterday (Jan. 01).

     

    The staff started work after religious activities.

     

    Speaking further, the President said all public servants today have an opportunity to fulfill their duties freely and independently.

     

    He said the year 2016 will be a historic year of the development of Polonnaruwa District. “By ending the period of lagging behind, the Polonnaruwa district is on a rapid development course and it will come soon match the development of other districts” , the President further stated.

     

    The President said that the priority will be given to solve the housing problems pertaining to the district under the Poḷonnaruwa District Development Project, which aims to develop the fields of education, health and agriculture.

     

    He further said that a new housing loan scheme will be implemented for the benefit of the public servants in the district.

     

    The staff of the Polonnaruwa Divisional Secretariat , including the Divisional Secretary participated in this occasion.

     

    Subsequently, the President joined in a ceremony to mark the new year at the North Central Province – Department of Sports.

     

    The President wished the staff of the Department of Sports for the new year. He also made an inspection tour of the Fitness Centre at the department.

     

    Chief Minister of the North Central Provincial Council, Peshala Jayarathna, Sports ministry officials and others participated in this event.
