UNP smashed heads of graduates demanding jobs Featured

June 19, 2014

Former UNP governments smashed the heads of undergraduates who took to streets demanding jobs, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr Sarath Amunugama said in parliament today.

The incumbent government would provide jobs to all graduates, the minister said participating in a debate on a motion moved by the Opposition at the time of adjournment of the House on issues related to pensions gratuity payments to retiring public sector workers.

He said: “We promise and provide jobs to all graduates. So far have provided jobs to 56,000 graduates. Work to provide jobs for another 50,000 is in progress. But what happened during the UNP time? When undergraduates took streets in Matara demanding jobs, their heads were smashed and they were sent to hospital.”
