    Fully equipped language labs for universities Featured

    Higher Education Minister SB Dissanayake told Parliament today that action had been initiated to establish fully-equipped language laboratories in all universities as mentioned in the Mahinda Chinthana Future Vision programme.

    The Minister said so in response to a question raised by UNP Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa.

    Minister Dissanayake said that the University of Peradeniya already had a language lab but action had been taken to construct a sophisticated language laboratory for the use of students of the Arts Faculty under the Higher Education for Twenty First Century Project by the end of this year.  University of Kelanaiya has four multimedia language labs. Preliminary planning work to construct language labs for the universities of Moratuwa and Ruhuna are underway.

    University of Sri Jayewardenepura has a fully-equipped language lab. Student’s Learning Centre in the University of Jaffna is being converted into a language lab. There are two languages labs in the South Eastern University. Universities of Rajarata, Sabaragamuwa, Wayamba and Uva Wellassa have language labs. Construction work to set up a language lab for the Aesthetic University has commenced, the minister said adding that facilities to these labs would be provided at university level.
