    Jaffna University representatives meet President

    A group of student representatives of the Jaffna University, together with the Vice Chancellor and senior members of the academia staff met President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat, yesterday (1st Nov.).


    Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and Minister of Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, D.M. Swaminathan also participated in this discussion.


    The President expressed his condolences over the death of two students as soon as he came to know of the incident and ordered the authorities concerned to conduct an independent and impartial investigation into the incident.


    On the request of the student representatives, the President directed the Attorney General to expedite the postmortem report on the death of two students. The students were also informed by the President that steps would be taken to grant compensation to the victims’ families, on the receipt of postmortem report.
