    Senior Badminton Champion Chandrika de Silva felicitated Featured

    Under the programme to felicitate senior sportsmen and women who have brought fame to the country, Badminton Champion Ms.Chandrika de Silva was felicitated at the Anuradhapura President's House.

     

    President Rajapaksa focusing attention to the reports published with regard to the situation faced by her, invited her to President's House in Anuradhapura and inquired about her grievance. Having requested assistance to build a house of her own, the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission on the instructions of the President, came forward to donate one million rupees to her to build a house. The financial contribution was awarded to her by the President.

     

    Ms.Chandrika de Silva held the Badminton championship for 11 years. She won a Gold Medal at the Senior Badminton Championship held at Richmond’s in Canada, beating 61 countries in 2011. She was the highest medal awardee at SAARC Badminton Competitions and won three golds at the Asian Badminton Championship.

     

    President Rajapaksa also wished her success in her future endeavours.

     

    Central Province Governor Karunarathne Divulgane and TRC Director General Anusha Pelpita participated at the occasion.
