President returns to Sri Lanka from visit to Iran

President Maithripala Sirisena who was on an official visit to Iran returned to the island this morning (May 15). The operations manager of the Bandaranaike International Airport said the delegation headed by the president landed at 1:45 a.m.

The president embarked on the visit following an official invitation extended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. President Maitthripala Sirisena engaged in discussions with his Iranian counterpart on the development of economic and trade ties between the two countries. Five agreements were inked between the two nations following discussions.

President Sirisena also held discussions with the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and met with a group of Sri Lankans living in Tehran.
