    Rs 4,200 Mn allocated to provide fishing gears for fishers Featured

    Minister Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Dr Rajitha Senaratne stated in Parliament today that 4200 million rupees have been allocated as an alternative subsidy scheme to provide fishing gears for fishermen.


    Responding to a question raised by UNP Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa, the minister said that currently 1500 million rupees had been spent on fishing gears and equipments and that the process of distribution was taking place.


    Minister Dr Senaratne said that the above amount of money allocated is 39.04% of the total money allocated for the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.


    He further added that 37,000 life jacket had been distributed free of charge in the 2014. (Special Reporter/HC)
