    Scholarship Examination Cut Off Marks to be announced onNov.17

    President Mahinda Rajapaksa has announced in the Budget Proposals his decision to increase the number of Grade 5 Scholarship holders from 15,000 to 25,000.  The revised figures for the Scholarship Examination will be officially announced by the Minister of Education Bandula Guanwardena onNovember 17.

     

    The cut off marks for the Sinhala students will be 157 while for the Tamil students it will be 152. 

    The marks for the different schools eligible to take in successful students will be announced on 9thof January 2015.  The Commissioner of Examinations has been notified to take action accordingly.

    This was announced by the Minister today (14) in the Parliament.  The cut off marks earlier were 165 for Sinhala students and 159 for Tamil students.

    The Commissioner General has arranged to award the relevant certificates to nearly 258,000 students which have already been dispatched to the schools on 17th September.  For the first time 10,000 additional students have benefited through this decision.

    The Rs.500 monthly award given to students so far has been raised to Rs.1500 with an increase of 300 percent. A circular specifying the new marks will be sent to schools and will be available on the internet.

    Children who have been successful and who wish to enroll in new schools can obtain the necessary forms from the relevant schools.(NJ/KH)
