    President holds bilateral discussions with Bhutan, Maldives and Afghanistan leaders

    President Mahinda Rajapaksa held fruitful talks with Bhutan, Maldives and Afghanistan leaders in Kathmandu on the sideline of the 18th SAARC Summit.

     

    Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, who met President Rajapaksa, discussed bilateral issues related to economic, trade and security matters between the countries. They also discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation between SAARC countries.

     

    During the Summit leaders of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are likely to discuss energy sharing.

     

    They are expected to meet as a group.(KH/PRIU)
