‘Criticisms, ideas & proposals are expected than compliments to establish a new political culture in country’- President

    February 14, 2015

“Even though establishing a new political culture in the country is a difficult task, it is an essential task we have to implement in keeping with the pledge given to the people”, said President Maithripala Sirisena.

To achieve this aim, constructive criticisms, ideas and proposals are needed than singing eulogies, the President further said.

He made these observations addressing the representatives of the United National Party (UNP) Former Parliamentarians' Association, Members of Public Organizations, Trade Unions, and Social Activists at the President's Secretariat on Feb.12.

The representatives explained to the President, the issues faced by them and the general public. The President paid attention to their difficulties and pledged to look into ways of settling them without delay.

The representatives requested the President to implement a programme with the consultation of relevant officers, to get the concessions given by the new government to consumers through Interim Budget as these concessions were not reaching their members.

The Trade Union delegates pointed out that this situation arising as a result of some persons continue to hold their posts even after the Presidential election, and they requested the President pay attention to this issue.

The Trade Union representatives further said that not only the politicians are involved in corruption, but similarly some officers too involved in corruption and the law should operate effectively against them as well. (PRIU)
