    BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday congratulated Gotabaya Rajapaksa on winning the Presidential election to become Sri Lanka’s new President.“China feels happy for Sri Lanka on smoothly holding the Presidential election and completing the major domestic political agendas, and extends its heart-felt congratulations to Gotabaya Rajapaksa on winning the Presidency,”

    After the Presidential election the market witnessed a bullish sentiment for the second consecutive day mainly contributed by JKH and CCS. The benchmark index, All Share Price Index (ASPI), closed for the day at an all year high of 6,129 gaining 107 points.Parcel trades made in JKH, CARG, COMB and HNB constitutes 10% of turnover rising above a 2 month high. Foreigners continued to be net sellers amidst high foreign participation.

    The international election observer groups yesterday congratulated the people of Sri Lanka on the successful, largely peaceful and orderly conduct of the ‘Presidential Election 2019’.Launching the interim report of Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), the only Asian international non-governmental organization accredited by the Election Commission for the November 16 polls, ANFREL Head of Mission Damaso Magbual together with observers Rona Ann Caritos and Elberel Davaa told reporters in Colombo that “the high voter turnout of 83.9 percent was a clear indication of the country’s commitment to staying the course of achieving genuine democratic and mature political processes”.
