The Sri Lanka Police has introduced a special real-time information management system to facilitate the public and devotees attending the 2026 Kandy Esala Perahera, which will be held from August 18 to 28 in and around the city of Kandy.
The initiative forms part of a comprehensive special security programme implemented by the Police to ensure the safety and convenience of those attending the historic Perahera. Special arrangements have also been made for traffic control, roadblocks, security duties, vehicle and personnel checks, visitor assistance and vehicle parking.
Through the new information system, the public can obtain real-time details on designated parking areas, Perahera procession routes, suitable viewing locations, available sanitary facilities and locations where separated or stranded persons can be reunited with their family members.
The service can be accessed through the official Sri Lanka Police website by selecting the “Kandy Esala Perahera” link, or through a dedicated website developed specifically to provide information related to the Perahera.
The system is designed to help visitors avoid unnecessary traffic congestion, reduce travel delays and plan their journeys more efficiently. It can be accessed via mobile phones, tablets and computers, enabling the public to obtain information conveniently from any location.
The Police have requested the public and devotees travelling to Kandy to make use of the service to ensure a safer, smoother and more convenient experience during the Esala Perahera.
