    Navy Open Triathlon Championship to be held in November

    Arrangements have been made to conduct the inaugural Navy Open Triathlon Championship in Dikowita and Uswetakeiyawa at 6.30 am on 1st November. The swimming event will be held in the Dikowita fishery harbour and the cycling and running events will be held in Dikowita on the Negombo road.

    Men’s swimming event is 750 m while women’s swimming event is 250 m. Men’s cycling event will cover a distance of 20 km and the event for women will cover a distance of 10 km. The distance of the running event will be 5 km for men and 3 km for women.

     

    The winners of the men’s event will receive Rs.100,000/= for the first place, Rs.75,000/= for the second place, Rs.50,000/= for the third place and seven consolation prizes worth Rs.10,000/= each. The winners of the women’s event will receive Rs.50,000/= for the first place, Rs.25,000/= for the second place, Rs.15,000/= for the third place and seven consolation prizes worth Rs.5,000/= each. The first, second and third place winners of both men’s and women’s events will be awarded trophies in addition to their prize money.

     

    Sri Lanka Navy being the organizer extends its fullest assistance to all athletes to make its first ever triathlon championship a grand success in order to popularize the sporting event which has immense potential to nurture local talents.
