    Lankan delegation attends UN Vesak commemoration Featured

    A Sri Lankan delegation including the Asgiriya Chapter Mahanayake Most Ven. Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera, Ramanna Nikaya Mahanayake Most Ven. Napane Pemasiri and Malwatte Chapter Anunayake Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera and Buddhasasana Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera participated in an event to commemorate the United Nations’ Vesak Day under the theme Human Development and Buddhism at the Mahachulalongkorn Raja Vidyalaya University main conference hall in Thailand from May 25 to 27th.

    The inauguration of the event was held under the patronage of Thailand’s Supreme Patriarch Most Ven. Somdet Phra Ariyavangsagatayana.A report outlining the aims and objectives of the conference was presented by MCU Rector and International Council for Day of Vesak (ICDV) and International Association of Buddhist Universities(IABU) President Ven. Prof. Dr. Phra Brahmapundit.

    The keynote speech on Buddhist Contribution for Human Development was delivered by Prime Minister Lyonchhen Dasho Tshering Tobgay. The event was attended by around 3,000 delegates from 80 different countries, including Sri Lanka.
