    Badminton Nationals begin tomorrow

    Hiranth Fernando (R) head of Sales and Marketing (Meadowlea) Pyramid Wilmar presents Sri Lanka Badminton president Nishantha Jayasinghe with a sponsorship payment in connection with the National Championships at a media briefing held at the SSC boardroom in Colombo


    The National badminton championships will be held from October 29 to November 3 at the Royal College Sports Complex.According to the organizing committee arrangements have been made to award certificates to all players qualifying to play from quarter-final levels while medals are to be awarded from semi-finals.In addition organisers also said that the highest total prize money ever offered for any local ranking badminton tournament, which is Rs 750,000 will be awarded.
    The matches will commence at 08.00 am on each day and the finals and awards ceremony will be held on November 3 from 04.00 pm at the Royal College Sports Complex. Sri Lanka Badminton has planned to conduct a training program for selected players from all Provinces to uplift the standards of provincial players during the National Championships. This will be conducted by Tony Wahyudi, the national coach.
    The events to be worked out will be Under 13 Boys/Girls –Singles/ Doubles, Under 15 Boys/Girls –Singles/ Doubles, Under 17 Boys/Girls –Singles/ Doubles, Under 19 Boys/Girls–Singles/ Doubles, Open Men’s Singles/Doubles, Open Women’s singles/ Doubles, Open Mixed Doubles, Over 35 Men’s Singles, Over 40 Men’s Singles, Over 40 Women’s Singles, Over 50 Men’s Singles, Over 55 Men’s Singles, Men’s Veterans Doubles (Over 40), Women’s Veterans Doubles (Over 40), Masters Doubles (Over 50) and Masters Doubles (Over 55).
