    Deepavali Celebrations in Warsaw

    October 30, 2014

Marking an important religious day in the Sri Lankan calendar, the Sri Lanka Embassy in Poland organized an evening of Depavali celebrations with the participation of the Sri Lankan Tamil & Sinhala community living in Poland on 24th October 2014.

At the outset, welcoming the gathering, the Ambassador, Mr. D. S. de Silva, enlightened the audience of the importance of Deepavali and affirmed that Deepavali is an occasion for social togetherness, both within the Hindu community and among other different faiths and backgrounds. Pointing out that “Unity” is the message of Deepavali, the Ambassador declared that this occasion is indeed a way for all citizens, to come together as brothers and sisters, known and unknown as a united multi-ethnic community to celebrate the Festival of Light.

After the Ambassadors’ speech, Hindu rituals and religious observances were conducted with the offering of flowers, chanting of Hindu slokas and burning incense to honour the Ganapathi statue. Everyone wished each other harmony, happiness and peace on the occasion of Deepavali which represents the triumph of light over darkness.

The religious and ceremonial segment of the event was followed by a dance performance by a little girl and then a Hindu traditional dinner was hosted by the Embassy. Many, who attended the celebrations, appreciated and thanked the Ambassador and the staff for a well organized event.(KH)
