Sanga and Mahela play their last one-day international at home today

    December 16, 2014

Sri Lanka gear up to say goodbye to their departing ODI heroes Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.

Kumara Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene will play their final ODI in Sri Lanka today vs England at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka having already clinched the series (4-2) will look to make full use of the dead rubber by including one or two players who didn't get an opportunity thus far in the series.

Over the years, Mahela and Sanga, found their names entering cricket folklore every time the national team took to the field irrespective of the format. The duo took spotlight just around the time when the euphoric glory of Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup victory was fading away and changed the way Sri Lankan cricket looked like and was thought of by the viewers. Both these players beautified Sri Lankan batting with exquisite strokeplay.

The silky shots and deft timing, without showing any brash intent to smack the ball over the boundary line recklessly, made them fan favorites, commentator favorites, analyst favorites – basically everyone’s favorite players.
