Dilshan, Sangakkara tons power SL to 333 Featured

    February 26, 2015

Bangladesh v Sri Lanka, World Cup 2015, Group A, Melbourne: Sri Lanka have pulverised Bangladesh in Melbourne without really hitting many sixes. Just the one six in a score of 332. That's still not the record, though. South Africa once scored 354 against England with just one six. However, Dilshan's 161 without a six is the record.

Citing favourable conditions, Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews decided to bat after winning the toss against Bangladesh at the MCG.  The day began with Bangladesh's slippery fielding, and that remained the feature of their effort with both Thirimanne and Sanga (who has registered his fastest hundred, in his 400th ODI) getting plenty of lives. Ground fielding and backing up was horrendous too. Batsmen the quality of Dilshan and Sanga won't let such sloppiness go unpunished. There is a huge target for Bangladesh now.

This SL innings might just hold the record for 300 with fewest sixes. Dilshan's score might well be the highest individual score without a six.
