    The possibility for afternoon thundershowers is still high over most parts of the island. Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island particularly after 2.00 p.m. Showers will occur in Uva and Southern provinces during the morning too. Heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected at some places in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Anuradhapura, Mannar and Vavuniya districts. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-central provinces during themorning. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

    Sri Lanka has ranked 66th out of 177 countries in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) outdoing other South Asian countries like India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. In 2018, Sri Lanka stood at the 67th place in the GHI achieving a moderate score of 17.9. However, this year, Sri Lanka has successfully achieved a moderate score of 17.1 securing the 66th rank.The GHI is a tool designed to comprehensively measure and track hunger at the global, regional, and national levels.The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) calculates GHI scores each year to assess progress, or the lack thereof, in combating hunger.

    Measures have been taken to provide special security to the four main candidates contesting at the Presidential Election 2019, stated the Ministry of Law and Order.A senior spokesman of the Ministry stated that new security coordinating officers have been assigned to the relevant candidates on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police, with the approval of the National Police Commission.

    A new Police Station was opened in Pansiyagama of Polpithigama zone with the participation of North Eastern Province Governor Peshala Jayaratne yesterday (16). his was the 498th Police Station of the project of establishing 600 Police Stations in Sri Lanka in order to provide an efficient and effective service.
