The entire Vesak commemoration of Sri Lanka Telecom will be held under the theme of “A meaningful Vesak celebrations” and the exhibition of stories contained in the Pansiya Panas Jathakaya will be a fitting implementation of the theme.
Sinhala and Tamil New Year - 2018 was celebrated at the College de Fareres Unis Ground, Saloumeh on 15.04.2018 under the patronage of Sri Lanka Ambassador to Lebanon Mrs. H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijerathna Mendis. The Ambassador and the guests were received by a welcome dance performed by Sri Lanka Army contingent at UNIFIL, Nakura and Sri Lanka Community in Lebanon.
The U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Mercy arrived in Trincomalee yesterday (25), to conduct the 2018 Pacific Partnership mission. Pacific Partnership 2018, would continue through May 8 and will feature U.S. and other military doctors and medical personnel working side-by-side with Sri Lankan medical professionals, to provide treatment to local communities and exchange best practices. Additionally, U.S. and partner nation service members, would join their Sri Lankan counterparts in civil engineering projects, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HA/DR) readiness training and public outreach throughout the local community.
The Government has decided to close down all liquor stores on 29th and 30th of April due to the Vesak festival. It has been announced that Vesak will be celebrated on 29th and 30th April and the time period from 26th April to 02nd May has been declared as the Vesak Week, by the government.
While stating that 3,000 police personnel will be deployed on Vesak Day for the security of the people and traffic controls in the Colombo City, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said five Vesak zones will be held in Colombo including 11 pandals.

The Russian Navy Ship 'Perekop', left Colombo on Sunday (22nd April) after completing a successful goodwill visit to the country. The ship arrived to Sri Lanka on the 18th (April) making a five-day goodwill visit.
Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifeguards reached another important milestone in their lifesaving activities passing the 1000 mark in rescued lives when lifesavers attached to the Hikkaduwa lifesaving station rescued three local youth from being swept away to sea.The three youth, aged between 19 - 21 years are residents of the Gampaha District were saved by Coast Guard lifeguards on duty at the popular southern beach in Hikkaduwa last week (17th April).
