    Sri Lanka’s experiences are significant in eradicating world terrorism - Russian Deputy Speaker Featured

    Russia’s Deputy Speaker Ilias Umakanov has said that Sri Lanka’s experience is important in the elimination of terrorism from the world. Addressing a function organized at the Parliamentary Complex, he said that the support of the Sri Lankan Parliament is imperative in the battle waged against ISIS terrorists.

    The function was organized for the launch of the “Thilanga in Parliament” which includes speeches made by Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala in Parliament. The event was held under the auspices of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe. Among those present were a group of representatives including the Deputy Speaker of Russia, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and many Parliamentarians.


    The book contains 45 speeches made by Thilanga Sumathipala on various political subjects within the Parliament throughout five years. Thilanga Sumathipala presented copies of the book to the guests including the Prime Minister.


    Expressing his views on the occasion Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe said that Thilanga Sumathipala was a person who safeguards Parliamentary traditions. The Prime Minister said he had the capability of expressing views on any topic.
