Refrain from espousing communal hatred - Govt.

    June 16, 2014

The Government  today urged all media organisations to act with responsibility in reporting incidents that could harm religious coexistence in the country.

The Government said spreading of rumors and issuing statements, releases with regard to yesterday's Aluthgama incident are against  media culture and ethics.  Also the Government note that minor incidents could be highlighted as major incidents using technology, as had been done in the case of Aluthgama incident.

Therefore the government requests people to remain calm and refrain from espousing communal hatred that would harm country's religious coexistence and that action would be taken  against those who spread rumors and incorrect information.(KH/SI)
