    June 18, 2014

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party issuing a statement vehemently condemning the Aluthgama incident said the incident has drawn the grave attention of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the party. The SLFP conveys its deepest sympathies to the families of those who died and also wishes speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.

The statement signed by the party Treasurer Minister Dullas Alahapperuma further says that the society should work in unity to prevent such unfortunate occurrences.  The communique points out that all  ethnicity groups - Sinhalese, Hindus and Muslims as well as religious groups have been living in harmony in Sri Lanka for many years.

Therefore the party will not allow any extremist forces to undermine the long standing unity among various ethnic and religious groups and thereby to tarnish the image of the country and the government.

The party requests the public not to be misled by the strategies of extremist elements trying to create divisions in the country.(KH/SI)
