    Muslims in Sri Lanka begins Ramadan Fast

    Muslims in Sri Lanka will begin fasting today as the Grand Mosque announced last evening sighting of the new moon.
    The decision to commence the month-long fast was taken At a meeting attended by representatives of the All Ceylon Jammiyyathul Ulema (the Supreme Council of Muslim Theologians of Sri Lanka), trustees and khatheebs of mosques in Colombo and the suburbs and representatives of the Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Department, last evening after Maghrib prayers at the Colombo Grand Mosque  announced the decision to commence Ramadan fast..
    Fasting, held from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan, is one of the give fundamental religious duties of Islam. It is a time of self-examination and increased religious devotion. Ramadan will continue for 30 days.
