    Shortage in upcountry vegetables due to drought experienced

    Vegetable cultivation has sharply decreased in the Nuwara-Eliya and Jaffna districts due to the drought in the districts during the past few months, The inclement weather conditions has been the main cause for the shortage of vegetbles in the market, mainly upcountry vegetables and thereby leading for a sharp increase in vegetable prices.


    The Divineguma Department has initiated a programme to provide cultivation material and seeds free of charge to farmer families to encourage them to start vegetable cultivation during the Maha Season.
