    Sri Lanka Navy to escort released Indian Fishermen to the IMBL

    Under the direction of  President Mahinda Rajapaksa, steps have been taken to release all the Indian fishermen and Indian fishing boats in the Sri Lankan custody with immediate effect. Accordingly, Sri Lanka navy has initiated immediate action to facilitate the release of the remaining 98 Indian fishermen and 28 Indian boats in the Sri Lankan Custody.

    As a humanitarian gesture, Sri Lanka Navy has assisted the repatriation of Indian fishermen and boats released from Sri Lankan custody after their arrest for poaching in the Sri Lankan waters.

     

    According to Sri Lanka Navy, vessels have been deployed to escort them to the IMBL as well as to rescue the Indian fishermen in distress and assist the salvage of Indian fishing boats stranded and run-aground due to mechanical defects.
