    New house for Jayawadani of 'The Last Phase'

    A newly constructed house was presented to Mrs. Jayawadani during a function in Kilinochchi yesterday (04th July). The house, built by security forces with financial contribution from well known businessman Mr. Upali Jayasinghe during a ceremony presided over by Security Forces Commander-Killinochchi Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe.

    Mrs. Jayawadani is the Tamil woman who was depicted in the popular documentary 'The Last Phase'. The documentary portrays her ordeal during the final period of the terrorist war. The documentary was screened at the EU Parliament in Brussels in November last year and also at the House of Lords in the UK Parliament in February this year. Taken over by her plight Mr. Jayasinghe had pledged to support Jayawadani to build a house.

     

    The spacious house is built on a plot of land donated by the government. Jayawadani, a mother of three who lives with her husband expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all those especially the security forces who helped her family to live in a house of their own.

     

    The house was completed by the Engineering Services Regiment in SFHQ -Kilinochchi with the financial support of Rs. 1.2 million by the donor.

     

    Mr. Upali Jayasinghe, Mrs. Sabeetha Perera, Director of 'The Last Phase, Jeevan Chandimal , senior security forces officers and the production team of the documentary were present at the occasion. SDF/mod (HC/SI)
