    July 05, 2014

There would be no fuel shortage in the country owing to the Friday’s sudden burst of a pipeline of a buoy located at Uswetakeiyawa that connected to the Muthurajawela oil storage facility, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation sources said.

Deputy General Manager (Operations), Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) Lalith Hettitantirige said that the there were sufficient fuel stocks at Kolonnawa and Muthurajawela storage terminals.

Burst of pipeline occurred when petrol was being unloaded from a tanker containing 40,000 metric tonnes of petrol and diesel.

Following the unforeseen incident unloading of refined crude oil to the Muthurajawela oil storage facility had been halted. If the repair would delay the tanker would be brought into the Dolphin Jetty of the Colombo Port for unloading.

Deputy General Manager Hettitantirige said that the CPC had all the spare parts necessary for the repairing work of the damaged pipeline and action had been taken to expedite the process of restoration.(HC)
