    Esala Maha Sisu Perahera to parade streets today Featured

    World’s biggest Esala Maha Sisu Perahera is scheduled to parade the streets of Colombo today (12). The Esala Maha Sisu Perahera is organized by the Ministry of Education for the fourth consecutive year.

    The Perahera is scheduled to commence at 2.00 pm from the Mahanama College, Colombo and to parade upto the Gangaramaya in Hunupitiya.

    The organizers said that over 200 dancing troupes and 1,500 students of schools countrywide would take part in today’s procession. The would feature various cultural items including whip crackers, up-country and low-country dances, raban dances, Taalam dances, Pentheru, acrobats, drummers, flag bearers, etc.

    The procession commencing from the Mahanama College would wend its way through Kollupitiya, Galle Road opposite Temple Trees, Rotunda Gardens, Navam Mawatha to Gangaramaya in Hunupitiya.

    Arrangements are made for student troupes to join the procession from three locations; namely Vishaka College, Thurstan College, and the Royal College in Colombo.

    President Mahinda Rajapaksa, all the ministers, members of the diplomatic corps are scheduled to watch the procession, organizers added.
